Supervisor: Director of Residential Education & Housing

 

Position Purpose: Responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of a diverse and cohesive array of programs designed to create community within the residential experience at Union. Serve as a member of the Residential Education & Housing leadership through supervision of professional staff and oversight of student staff.  Provide leadership and strategic direction to residential communities through specialized communities, including the Minerva Program and Theme Housing, supporting the bridge between academic and residential life. Serve as a member of the senior leadership on call rotation, supported through optional live on opportunities.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supervision and Team Development: Directly supervise and mentor 3-5 professional staff members and oversight for the paraprofessional student staff. This includes hiring, onboarding training, performance planning, and evaluation, as deemed appropriate. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate an area operation, using staff, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution. Ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

  • Living & Learning Programming: Assist the Director on the future direction and development of the Residential Education program to meet the needs of Union's diverse resident population, including first year & upper class experiences, the Minerva Program, and theme housing. Support the continual development of our residential curriculum model, The UJourney, with a collaborative and inclusive approach. Assess, develop and initiate high impact practices as it relates to the Residential Education & Housing experience. This includes working directly with our theme house program. Provide leadership through partnership with campus stakeholders to develop, support, and assess the Living Learning program called the Minerva Program, promoting a collaborative and student-centered approach to community building and academic success.

  • Student Support Services: Ensure integration of Residential Education efforts with those of other complementary units including First Year Experience, Student Activities, Diversity and Inclusion, and Community Standards and Conflict Resolution. Serve as a Student Conduct adjudicator as needed to support maintaining a safe and conducive environment for student success within the residential community. Serve as a senior member of the On-Call Response Team.

  • Administration: Manage budget as tied directly to all assigned areas of responsibility. Provide assistance to the department of Residential Education & Housing in creating and sustaining a culture of evidence-based assessment. Compile data and provide routine verbal and written responses to inquiries about departmental operations to students, campus colleagues, other institutions' housing officers and to the public. Analyze data, write reports and make presentations on departmental and student development issues.

  • Leadership: Under the direction of the Director of Residential Education & Housing, work closely with the leadership team to ensure that all units are integrated, coordinated, and connected in order to fully advance the residential experience. Operationalize the long-term Residential Education & Housing strategy and vision that is defined by the Director of Residential Education & Housing, in partnership with other members of the leadership team.
